Sleazer alleges sleaze

Blog of Sleaze author, Andrew Landeryou, has accused a real journalistic internet news provider of sleaze.

Andrew, after all, should know.

Happy weekend.

We hear a lot about sleaze on the Slanderyou blog. Much of it is sleaze itself. Slanderyou is targeting the wrong person. Slanderyou should treat with more respect some of our better journalists, like Andrew Bolt.

Read about Andrew Bolt's fine critique below of the Candy Broad proposals to support abortion in this state:

A vote to kill

I THOUGHT killing baby Jessica with an injection into her beating heart was so wrong that good people would cry, "enough".

Surely we'd make sure such a cruelty could never happen again?
Wrong. Instead, Labor MP Candy Broad last week put up a private member's Bill that her supporters boast will let doctors kill children just like Jessica without any risk of prosecution.
Indeed, this is the only solid reason any of them give for backing it.
Jessica was still in the womb, but just a month from term when a prominent Melbourne specialist told her mother that ultrasound tests showed she might be a dwarf.
The baby otherwise seemed healthy, but her mother was deeply superstitious and highly emotional.
She insisted that under her traditions giving birth to a dwarf would bring bad luck and she threatened to kill herself if her child was not destroyed.
Her specialist agreed to abort her child. But at 32 weeks, Jessica was able to live outside the womb, and so first had to be killed.
She was - with a needle to her heart.
How deformed was she really? According to evidence presented in Federal Parliament, a nurse at the birth of the killed child noted: "On delivery, the baby doesn't look small."
Yes, it seems possible that Jessica had not only been healthy, but "normal" too.
Yet she'd been killed, just a month before term, when she would have been saved by our laws against murder.
True, Broad, a former minister, did not mention Jessica in introducing her Bill, which mirrors the state Labor Party's official policy but faces the opposition of Premier Steve Bracks.
Nor did she discuss late-term abortions generally - the abortion each year in Victoria of as many as 100 babies big and healthy enough to live outside the womb. And be adopted.
Instead, Broad insisted her Bill to decriminalise abortion in Victoria would actually change nothing at all, so go back to sleep.
"The Bill would neither alter the number of abortions performed or the way in which services are regulated," she told Parliament.
Indeed, "current practice will continue".
Really? But if Broad's Bill will change nothing, why bother with it at all?
Broad burbled through a few explanations last week that suggest to me that she is not being entirely frank.
Although abortion is still illegal under the Crimes Act, the 1969 ruling of Justice Clifford Menhennitt of the Supreme Court allowed abortions if a doctor agreed that giving birth would harm the mother's physical or psychological health.
This now-routine formality has made abortions so legally acceptable that 20,000 Victorian women each year have one - and with taxpayers' support.
That's a lot. Yet Broad still claimed the Crimes Act, with its technical ban on abortions, was "a significant barrier to accessibility".
Broad's other arguments were even weaker. For instance, she said abortion's "uncertain legal status creates an atmosphere whereby it is acceptable to harass women and doctors".
More piffle. In fact, the vast majority of Victorians would think it contemptible to heckle women and doctors at abortion clinics.
So if Broad's excuses for her Bill are mere fluff, what might her real reasons be?
Listen to her noisiest backers. Listen to Dr Leslie Cannold, president of Reproductive Choice Australia, who said Broad's Bill must pass to stop "anti-choice crusaders" from using the Crimes Act to prosecute abortionists.
But which abortionist has faced possible legal action in this state in the past couple of decades?
Cannold could cite only one - the doctor who killed baby Jessica, and who in fact was never charged with anything after a long and largely secretive inquiry.
Listen also to obstetrician Dr Desiree Yap, of the Association for the Legal Right to Abortion, who on 3AW likewise argued that abortion had to be decriminalised to protect abortionists.
She, too, cited just one case where a Victorian doctor might have faced charges. Again, it was the doctor who killed baby Jessica.
And Sunday Age columnist Terry Lane referred to the very same case this week, saying the Crimes Act had to be changed so that some "Catholic zealot" couldn't "persecute" someone like Jessica's mother "for trying to do the best for herself and her family".
Broad's three backers have blown the whistle.
Hers is not a Bill that changes nothing about abortion other than its image.
This is a Bill that its supporters hope and believe will give doctors more freedom to kill healthy, kicking, grimacing, thumb-sucking babies who are just a couple more weeks from birth - and to kill them for no better reason than a mother's wild superstition.
If our politicians are happy to have such killings in our hospitals, then they should vote for Broad's Bill.
But for heaven's sake, let's have them at least speak frankly about what they intend to do, and about the children they will allow to be so freely destroyed.
Let's have them admit that this is in fact a vote to kill Jessica, and unlucky children just like her.

The wrong person! I think Slanderyou is performing a great public service, revealiing the dark forces behind Andy Landy. If I was a monarchist, I would call for Slanderyou to be knighted for services to the community. Even the Liberals would agree with that.

And another thing, why would the Liberals be trying to deflect attention away from THEIR Andy? What have they got to hide!

According to this Blog, http://goinggreener.blogspot.com/2007/02/adverts.html, Landeryou is a criminal.

It states: "Has anyone seen the current KFC 'family bucket' advert? 'Look you can get all this processed, fried, brown gunk for sixpence and give mum the night off cooking...'. It's the end bit that got me so angry when I saw it for the first time: the final boast is that all the packaging is disposable, cue footage of the whole lot being swept into the bin at the end of the ad...paper cartons, cups, wrappers...

To my mind, this is criminal as we approach global environmental meltdown. Surely this kind of statement can't be considered acceptable in 2007?! I'm going to write to the Advertising Standards Agency (www.asa.org.uk) and see if I get any response..."

BRACKS TO GO: He's Putting Family First And Endorses Brumby

Fifty three year old Victorian Premier Steve Bracks is apparently going to announce his resignation for family reasons. Recently his son has had lots of problems and there is speculation that the pressure may have been a factor in his decision.

He's quitting Parliament too, creating a vacancy in the plum safe Labor seat of Williamstown.

He'll be leader until next Monday. The caucus meeting will be at 11 o'clock and has emphatically endorsed John Brumby to be his successor.

He's told the press conference where he announced his retirement from politics "there's no easy time" to make this decision with the "government in good shape." He says he "loved the job", even claiming that he loved attending Cabinet meetings!

He says "Victoria is a much better place than it was eight years ago."

He's chronicled the considerable achievements of the government in law and order, infrastructure, the environment, health and education while maintaining the AAA credit rating restored by the previous Kennett government after the disaster of Cain-Kirner.

He emphasised his pride in his ambition being realised that the ALP could be considered a strong economic manager for the state.

He said "Holding public office is the highest honour" and in those circumstances where you cannot give everything to it that you should go. He said he couldn't give any more at that 100% level and couldn't commit to running again in 2010. From that point he says he had an obligation to tell the people of Victoria.

He confirmed that his family's problems played a significant role.

He explained that after twenty two years running as a candidate from the mid 1980s that he "goes back a way."

This shock decision has blind-sided the OC's highest ranking of sources. There was an emergency meeting of Cabinet this morning where he told the troops. Bracks says that the meeting was highly emotional.

Bracks singled out two ministers, Thwaites and Brumby in particular for their contribution. He endorsed Brumby as the greatest Treasurer Victoria has ever had.

Sharon McCrohan was also mentioned for being there from the beginning. Geoff Walsh praised as unflappable, press secretary Alison Crossweller and his feared gate-keeper Rosa Silvestre, Terry Moran, Bill Shorten, Steve Newnham.

He even praised the state political reporters as "the best in the country".

He thanked his family and explained that his kids had only ever known politics and public life.

He said two weeks ago he told Thwaites and Brumby, Walsh and McCrohan that he was considering leaving.

It's an astonishing decision, with him racking up 2837 days in the job. That's important because at 3000 days of Premier's service, you get a statue in perpetuity out the front of the Premier's office at 1 Treasury Place.

Staff are shocked and many worried. We understand that Chief of Staff Geoff Walsh will be staying.

Many people who've turned their chum Steve Bracks into an industry, like those running CPR are likely to face a unique set of challenges.

Our tip is John Brumby to step up. No one has his stature and cross-factional support. There's been no better Minister in the entire government. The only question is whether he wants it. And Brumby being Brumby of course he does.

Rumours of John Thwaites leaving too. Or is that just wishful thinking?

Presser started at 10.40 this morning in the very crowded and sweaty "media room" where he will explain his reasons for what appears to be a very sudden decision.

Rubbish Cait - this has been splliing around the news wires all morning - Landeryou read it the same time everyine else has. Here is a scoop, Brumby next?

Anonymous said...

Rumour flying about is that Bracks resigned because he was spotted talking to Landeryou.

The pope would have to resign had he done the same!

Anonymous said...

Hey Scoop, don't forget the Archbishop of Canterbury!

Cait, you will notice that News Corp published the story at July 27, 2007 10:16am http://www.news.com.au/story/0,23599,22143356-2,00.html,

Landeryou was only after that!

Anonymous said...

Yeah, News had the story first - long before plagiarist Landeryou got to it!

Landeryou was behind Sky TV, the ABC, Fairfax, AAP and News Ltd. about Bracks resignation but did beat MX again.
Wasn't even at the briefing.
Got Bracks' age wrong too.
Tipped Ruddock was going to resign last Dec.

Even C31, which doesn't have a newservice got in on the story b4 Landeryou!

Anonymous said...

How shocking!
Landeryou who lervs to detail the sex lives of minor political figures, which is neither in the public's interest or ethical journalism, accuses Crikey of sleaze.
For all his huffing and puffing, he's the best ad for Crikey and The Age.
Normally I would past over certain stories as uninteresting but when he draws them to my attention I go back to the source to read them.
I guess he's just jealous that everyone else is getting a little action and he's all alone.

Anonymous said...

And it wasn;t long ago that Landeryou forecast that Christian Kerr was going to get the sack from Crikey.

Not only was Landeryou wrong, but Kerr has edited Crikey's new book.

Yeah, and he has been screaming for so long that half The Age was going to get sacked! Jaspan, for example, is still there.

The decision by the ALP to convince Bracks to contest the 2006 election has cost the taxpayers of Victoria $350,000.

Add to this the forced resignation of Thwaites by ALP insiders has cost Victorian taxpayers a further $350,000.

$700,000 in total. A disgrace.

The ALP won't be puting up their hands to pay, will they?

Anonymous said...

Maybe Landeryou could pay - he seems to have plenty of money, that he doesn't work for a living!
